About

The (Im)perfectionist was based on one of my favorite films and my friend’s experience. It is about the issue of perfectionism, which can be considered as a social issue because of how harmful it is, but most of the people do not see the problem creeping in with being obsessed with being perfect.

One of my friends was struggling with her own grades even when she already has what is a good great. She lost weight and last time we met she looked like a walking corpse and was very tired. Turned out, she was aiming for a perfect GPA even when nobody asked her to do it. When I asked her about it, she just said it does not feel right to not get a perfect grade. From then, I knew being obsessed with perfection is a serious social issue.

It is so normalized in our society that people choose to not see the problem behind chasing perfection. In my project, I am aiming to use the concept of Wabi-Sabi, to embrace imperfections. I want to show that we as humans do not have to be always perfect, because those mistakes are what make us humans.

Animation

Being a student in an art school that requires you to be "perfect" is hard for Biwa. Refusing to follow the "perfect" art style of the school, Biwa has to fight negative comments from her classmates and even expulsion threat from the principal himself. Right now, she has to make a choice, either to follow the school's expectation or break free against the school's concept of perfectionism.

Zine

Considered as a threat to the school, a private investigator is spying Biwa from a far. The zine will contain more information about our main character as we dig deeper to her personality.

The second section of the zine will be about concept and development as there will be closer look to the character design and backgrounds for the whole project.
